Half Hourly Meters Explained

What is a Half Hourly Meter?

Simply put a half hourly meter is a meter that takes a reading every half an hour and is designed for higher usage meters.

What is a MOP (meter operator)?

Every half hourly meter needs a MOP(meter operator) assigned to it. This is a separate contract to the electricity contract and can be done with the same supplier that your energy agreement is with or independently.

Your MOP is responsible for the data collection on the meter and the upkeep if there were to be a fault or problem with the meter itself.

We are happy to advise on who is the most competitive in your area.

Is a half hourly meter cheaper?

If your usage is high a half hourly meter will almost always work out cheaper overall.

Who is the best supplier for my half hourly meter?

This can change, often depending on when suppliers have bought the energy themselves. This is where using a broker like ourselves with access to all UK suppliers is hugely useful as prices are updated twice a day with every UK supplier and they will often increase their margins when dealing with customers directly.

What is a KVA/Capacity charge?

Your KVA/Capacity will have a set figure against your meter depending on what the maximum load/demand will be for your meter. This is a separate charge on your bill to the KWH or Standing Charge.

We can check to see what your KVA is peaking at and if required reduce this setting as it is often set too high from the start and never changed by suppliers or MOPs unless prompted by the customer.

How do I reduce my carbon footprint?

If you are looking to reduce your carbon footprint we can show you the various options of green energy, solar panels, energy audits etc and put a plan in place that is tailored to your specific business.

If you need to supply audits to the Carbon Trust we can put you in touch with one of our partners who will be happy to assist.
